Påleparken
In autumn 2014 Anders Gjennestad won the pitch for the artistic design of the planned climate window for the new Finnmarkssykehuset Kirkenes. The building complex is located in the Norwegian Barents Region close to the borders to Russia and Finland.
The "Påleparken" consists of 76 up to three meters high concrete poles. The steles serve as barriers against drifting snow and climate protection for the main entrance area of the building. To develop a sculptural snow protection the artist and the project team worked together with Prof. Thomas Thiis from the University for Environmental and Biosciences in Ås, Norway. A total of 15 metal sheets, hanging between the steles increase the dimension of the installation, while metallic qualities, silhouette, light and shade support the barrier effect.
The plates denote stencils based on Anders’ photography. The motifs can be found as reliefs on the walls of the park.
The project was realised in collaboration with Kulturbyrået Mesén, Oslo, Norway.
